[Aortic Area:  S1 sounds slightly split  and is softer than S2. S2 is a single sound; No other sounds are observed in systole or diastole; HR =  60  bpm]

Notes:  Generally in the aortic area of auscultation, S2 has a higher intensity and higher frequency sound quality than S1 in a normal heart sound. Listen carefully to the different characteristics of S1 and S2. Always start at the left side of the phonocardiogram above as you focus in a relaxed manner to observe. Move your focus slowly to the right noting all your observations.  Let this become a general habit.
